The Paul Harris Fellowship Award is one of the highest honours Rotary can bestow upon a person. Recipients are Rotarians and community professionals, in recognition of their outstanding contributions exemplifying the highest ideal in Rotary in placing “SERVICE ABOVE SELF.” On July 5, Club President Sandra Gallaugher presented Paul Harris Awards to Members Bobbi Ferguson and Kerstin Stinson.

Our 80th anniversary was a resounding success with a sold out house on hand to enjoy "Oh Canada, We Sing for Thee". Fellowship was enjoyed before the show, as well as at intermission, when a special 80th anniversary cake was served. At left, Shelburne Rotary President Sandra Gallaugher accepts a certificate from MP David Tilson recognizing the auspicious occasion. Thank you to everyone who supported this event!

The Rotary Club of Shelburne recently made two significant donations. Cheques were presented to Pickin’ in the Park for the pavilion currently under construction at Fiddle Park and to the newly-established Dufferin County Foundation. The Foundation will, in future, support a wide range of community projects in Dufferin County and the Rotary Club is proud to be one of the founding supporters.

The Rotary Club of Shelburne recently presented Sarah Robinson, Curator of the Dufferin County Museum & Archives (second from right) with a donation to fully sponsor a veterans’ exhibit at the Museum in November 2017. The exhibit will feature information about World War I veterans from around the world, as well as artifacts and archival material about Dufferin County veterans from World War I.

You will notice some changes to the Fiddle Championship this year - after 65 years the Rotary Club wants to enhance the fiddle contest event to create a new level of excitement in town and to show all those traveling through town what an exciting and dynamic music event it is. The Shelburne Rotary Club has pledged to provide the milk and cereal for the Glenbrook Elementary School Breakfast Program for the next three years and recently presented a $1,000 cheque to cover the first year. The Glenbrook Breakfast Program provides nutrition and smiles to help students prepare for the day ahead. Centennial Hylands and Hyland Heights also have breakfast programs.

Despite the threat of showers the Shelburne Rotary Club, assisted by the local Scouts, and Rotary friends and relatives, conducted the "Adopt a Highway" road clean-up on June 1. Both sides of the highway from Shelburne to Primrose were cleaned. More than 55 bags of garbage were picked up. Rotary thanks Pete's Deli for their annual contribution of coffee, hot chocolate, and delicious donuts.

Thank you to all the friends and family of Shelburne Rotary that helped us celebrate our 75th anniversary on April 25 at the Shelburne Legion. Highlights of the evening included the presentation of another installment in our most recent $25,000 commitment to the hospital, the naming of two Paul Harris Fellows and the induction of a new member. A great time was had by all!
